Expedite

At KT Tech, we take pride in our speed. Our standard lead times are typically around 10 business days, which is already faster than many shops offer. But we truly stand out in our expedited services, where we can turn projects around in 5 business days or less. Here is a closer look at our expedite capabilities and what helps us deliver on them.

Fast Turnarounds When You Need Them

Expedites are extremely common among our customers and make up a large percentage of our projects. In most cases, we can offer expedite turnaround of 5 days, but for especially urgent jobs, we may also be able to support 2- or 3-day lead times. In certain circumstances, next-day turnaround may even be possible.

As with any project, your lead time will depend on your needs and your part. Factors like part quantity, current shop capacity, material availability, and secondary requirements will all affect what’s possible. A smaller order with readily available materials is easier to expedite than a large run with multiple outside processes.

Expedited work may also involve additional cost, with pricing based on the required timeline and the project’s specific requirements. We review those details on a case-by-case basis in discussions with our customers.

What Types of Projects Can Be Expedited?

We are open to expediting a wide range of work, including both new parts and repeat jobs. If a project is new, we are prepared to move quickly through programming, first article production, inspection, and then into production as needed.

Part complexity is not necessarily a barrier, either. Challenging geometries and other demanding requirements do not prevent fast turnaround in our shop, because our Swiss and 5-axis machining services allow us to handle complex parts efficiently.

Above all, successful expediting requires communication. When deadlines are compressed, customers need to be responsive so questions can be resolved immediately. For example, if a model and drawing do not match, or if we need to discuss a small design adjustment, quick feedback helps us keep to the timeline. Delays in communication can quickly turn into delays in production.

What Projects May Not Work As Expedites?

There are a few project factors that may make a project difficult to expedite:

  • High quantities can extend production time beyond an expedited window.

  • Nonstandard materials may require additional sourcing time.

  • Specialized tooling or outside processing can also add time to the schedule.

Even so, these factors do not automatically rule out an expedite. We work with strong vendor partners, and in many cases, they can support very fast turnaround on outside services. That flexibility often helps us meet aggressive deadlines even when a project includes additional steps.

The best approach is to talk with us about your project, and we can help you determine a realistic turnaround time.

A Workflow Designed for Speed

Since first opening our doors, KT Tech has thrived on rapid prototype services and short-run work. We are extremely capable with expedites because we’ve designed our entire workflow around them.

We have built strong scheduling flexibility into our operations, and our shop is organized to reduce wasted time. For example, we have standardized tooling, fixturing, and materials so our team can quickly identify the best option for a job and locate it without delay. Each tool has its own unique ID, and our programmers and machinists use a master catalog to find what they need efficiently.

These details are critical when every minute counts, and we’ve spent years refining our rapid turnaround process.

Always Reliable, Even for Expedites

Expedites are a major part of our business, and many repeat customers return to our California machine shop again and again because they know we take short deadlines seriously. If we promise a short timeline, we keep that promise. Our on-time delivery rate shows it.
